台湾赌博合法化 有利云顶探讨扩充

(吉隆坡28日讯)台湾决定将赌博合法化可能为云顶有限公司(GENTING,3182,主板贸易服务组)带来商机将赌场业务扩充至该岛屿,但是分析师说在短期内,云顶集团将专注于新加坡的综合休闲胜地发展计划。

马银投资银行证券投资研究的分析师说,由于细节简略,目前评述云顶集团进军台湾市场仍然是言之过早。首先,台湾还没有决定将发出的赌场执照数目,虽然一些媒体报导说将会有2或3张。

他对The Edge金融日报说:“在短期内,云顶将更侧重它在新加坡所综合休闲胜地发展计划。此外,马来西亚仍然是云顶的市场催化剂。”

在激励经济的决策下,台湾在1月12日通过一项法案,允许在离岸岛屿的彭湖,金门以及马祖县兴建赌场。

国内一家投私研究所的分析师说,开放台湾市场对云顶集团大致上有利,因为将有更多扩充商机。但是,她说推行任何赌场计划之前,首先须耗时在偏远离岸岛屿兴建必要基建设施。

她说:“与专注重要大人物市场的澳门不同,台湾的赌博市场可能是专主国内以及来自中国的赌客。中国市场仍然有强大潜能待开发,因此云顶可能有意开拓台湾市场。”

与此同时,附属国内一家银行的研究所分析师表示关注的是,台湾拥有本身的赌场后,中国对入境澳门的签政限制也可能实施于台湾。

她说在这情况下,台湾将兴建的任何赌场收益可能主要来自国内市场。如果有3家赌场,台湾市场可能不够大以及竞争将激烈。由去年6月开始,中国限制它的人民每3个月只能前往澳门1次,之前是每个月2次。

她补充说:“我不能肯定云顶是否有意竞标在台湾的赌场执照。但是如果竞标,将是在名胜世界有限公司(RESORTS,4715,主板贸易服务组)名义下,因为后者有大量现金。”

RWS project on track

PETALING JAYA - RESORTS World at Sentosa (RWS), built at a cost of S$6 billion by Genting, is on track for opening early next year despite the global financial crisis.

According to Resorts World at Sentosa assistant vice-president Robin Goh, the economic downturn has not affected the progress of construction works.

He said RWS would be the only casino resort in the world with two world-class attractions - South-East Asia's only Universal Studios theme park and Marine Life Park, the world's largest oceanarium.

'No other casino offers such a strong, integrated one-stop proposition which will be highly attractive to family travel, a substantial segment in the region.

'We believe that Resorts World's proposition as a complete destination is its key differentiation from Macau, which is still very skewed towards gaming,' he told StarBiz.

On worries that the poor performance of casinos in Macau would affect Singapore's latest resort, Mr Goh said (RWS) would 'bring to the table what Macau does not already have.'

'Macau only has casinos and big hotels whereas RWS will be home to some of the world's leading attractions, including the Universal Studios theme park which will occupy almost half of the resort,' he said.

He said the theme park would feature 24 movie-themed rides, 18 of which were designed exclusively for Singapore.

'Among them is the world's tallest pair of duelling roller coasters, the 'Transformers' ride and hot favourites given a new twist, such as Revenge of the Mummy, Jurassic Park River Rapids and the Waterworld Stunt Show,' he said.

Based on the blockbuster movie, 'Transformers' ride was the world's first and was scheduled to debut at Universal Studios Singapore and later at Universal Studios, Hollywood, both in 2011.
RWS will also be home to Mark Burnett Productions Asia, which will set up studios facilities where game shows will be filmed.

The 49-ha resort will also feature a FestiveWalk, Marine Life Park and Maritime Xperiential Museum.

'Marine Life Park - sited on 8ha and filled with 20 million gallons of water - will be the largest oceanarium in the world,' Mr Goh said, adding there would be over 700,000 marine creatures and opportunities to hand-feed tiger sharks from an enclosed cage.

Just a 20-minute ride from Changi airport, RWS will also be able to host over 12,000 delegates in three formal meeting locations at any one time.

'We would be able to do something which has never done before in the region. We propose to bring delegates on rides and show them what goes on behind the scenes. So people will get to see the magic behind how we scare people,' Mr Goh said.

The resort is expected to welcome 15 million visitors in the first year of operations.

Mr Goh said a S$4 billion credit facility to fund the project was secured last April.

It was one of the largest syndicated credit deals undertaken in Singapore and was completed in less than four months, he said.

Underwritten by five local and international banks, the successful and swift process of securing the credit facility reflects the support and vote of confidence that the banks and financial institutions have in RWS,' Mr Goh added.

He said the company had awarded most of the major construction contracts for the resort.

'To date, we have awarded S$3 billion worth of contracts, including those for Universal Studios, four hotels, the casino, and FestiveWalk,' he said.

Mr Goh said that the Malaysian market remained one of RWS's top priority markets.

'We are reviewing our pricing and packages, taking into account the price-sensitivity of the market and the current economic situation,' he said.

The rates and packages would be revealed later in the year, he added.

Star Cruises closes UK representation office

Star Cruises has closed its UK representation office with the loss of three staff.

Michael Dupont, assistant vice president of sales for Europe, is among the three redunandancies.

He has led the Star Cruises sales and marketing function in Europe for more than 12 years, driving the brand into new international markets, including the first Star Cruises ship to be based outside Australasia in summer 2006 when the cruise line offered Malta-based Mediterranean cruises. Prior to this, Dupont worked for Royal Caribbean.

Star Cruises says it will continue to offer its Singapore-based ship the SuperStar Virgo for sale through travel agents in the UK and Ireland. Information on rates, product and sales support will be offered from the cruise line's Asia-based offices.

Star Cruises' parent company Malaysia-owned Genting Group owns half of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Still early for Genting to look at Taiwan, say analysts

KUALA LUMPUR: Taiwan's move to legalise gambling may present an opportunity for Genting Bhd to expand its gaming business to the island, analysts said, but the Genting group would likely focus on its integrated resort (IR) development in Singapore in the short term.

An analyst at Aseambankers Equity Research said it was "still early days" to comment on the viability of the Taiwan market to the Genting group, as details were sketchy. For one, Taiwan has not decided on the number of casino licences to award, although some media reported that there would be "two or three".

"In the short term, Genting would be more concerned with its IR project in Singapore. In addition, Malaysia is still a catalyst market for Genting," he told The Edge Financial Daily .
In a move to spur its economy, Taiwan on Jan 12 passed a bill to allow the construction of casinos on its offshore islands of Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu counties.

An analyst at a local research house said the opening of the Taiwan market was generally positive to the Genting group in view of more expansion opportunities.

However, she said it would take time to build the necessary infrastructure on the remote islands before any casino project could take off.

"They need to improve the accessibility of those islands and build the infrastructure first, and this takes time.

"Unlike Macau, which eyes the VIP market, Taiwan's gaming market will likely tap the masses domestically and in mainland China. There are still a lot of untapped markets in mainland China, so Genting may want to explore Taiwan," she said.

Meanwhile, an analyst at a local bank-backed research house is concerned that China's visa restriction on Macau may also apply to Taiwan when the latter have its own casinos.

If that is the case, any casino to be built in Taiwan would likely see revenue coming mainly from the domestic market.

"If there are three casinos, Taiwan may not be big enough and competition will be stiff," she said. China mainlanders are restricted to one Macau visit every three months beginning June last year, compared with twice a month previously.

"I am not sure if Genting is interested in bidding for a casino licence in Taiwan. But if they were to bid for it, it would be under Resorts (World Bhd), because Resorts has a lot of cash," she added.

城贸控股手上订单 总值5200万元

尽管我国及区域经济持续衰退,城贸控股(Cityneon)手中的订单额依然强劲,在2009年到2012年之间的订单总值为5200万元,同时计划继续招聘人手,把本地员工人数增至140人。
  
集团表示,目前的订单包括:为云顶国际在圣淘沙名胜世界(Resorts World)的环球影城(Universal Studio)中建造三个景点。与此同时,集团也为阿曼(Oman)旅游局建造展览摊位,作为举办一个为期三年的国际路演。另一方面,集团与新加坡一级方程式大赛车(F1)主办单位所签、为期五年630万元的家具供应及装修合约也进入第二年。

Firm order book for Star’s Cityneon

SINGAPORE: Cityneon Holdings Ltd, 63% owned by Star Publications (M) Bhd, has reported a firm order book for 2009 and beyond despite the economic downturn in Singapore and the region.

In a statement yesterday, Cityneon said its order book for 2009 to 2012 stood at S$52mil (RM124.62mil) to date. The contracts included a S$35mil (RM83.85mil) deal to build three attractions at Universal Studios being built by the Genting group on Sentosa Island, as well as exhibition booths and other on-site installations to support a three-year international roadshow by the Oman Tourism Authority.

Group managing director Ko Chee Wah said the group was heartened that it managed to secure the amount at the start of a new year in such difficult market conditions.

“We hope to sign more deals in the coming weeks and months,” he said.

Cityneon is in the second year of a five-year S$6.2mil (RM14.85mil) contract to supply ground and furniture fit-out for Singapore’s F1 race in September. Last year, it provided the furniture for the F1 hospitality suites, media centre and public areas.

It will also be constructing booths for exhibitors at the CommunicAsia & Broadcast Asia show in September, and the grandstand at this year’s Chingay Parade.

“We are glad that we took steps in recent years to diversify into new markets and new services.
“This has helped us sustain momentum in a year when economies around the world are seeing a massive contraction in demand from consumers and businesses,” Ko said.

In line with its bigger order book, Cityneon will be hiring more staff this year after having recruited 27 designers, event managers, marketing and account servicing executives last year.

Cityneon, which is due to report its full-year results in February, plans to expand its current staff strength of 140 in Singapore.

GPI Wins Large RFID Orders From Two New Asian Casinos

New Macau and Philippine Casinos choose GPI's RFID technology for Casino Currency Control(R) security, tracking and verification at gaming tables

佳晟获1207万元合同

佳晟控股(Chasen Holdings)的子公司Hup Lian工程分别从金明创新(Kingsmen Creatives)、圣淘沙名胜世界以及M+W Zander(新)私人有限公司争取到合同,总值1207万元。

它说,金明创新的合同涉及结构工程设计,而圣淘沙名胜世界的合同涉及为环球影城(Universal Studios)供应和安装结构钢铁工程预件(fabrication),总值672万元。M+W Zander的合同则是为对方的本地最大太阳能厂设计、供应和安装结构钢管、连桥和钢梯的预件,总值537万元。
  
这些工程项目预料今年10月完工。随着争取到这些合同,Hup Lian工程如今的订单总额大约是2100万元。有关合同预料不会对截至3月底的公司年度每股盈利和净有形资产带来任何冲击。

New bridge linking mainland S'pore to Sentosa to open later this year

SINGAPORE: A new bridge linking mainland Singapore to Resorts World at Sentosa is expected to open later this year. Resorts World said it should receive traffic ahead of its grand opening.

The 710-metre bridge is expected to serve some 15 million visitors a year once the resort is fully operational. After completion, the traffic flow to Sentosa will be realigned.

The three lanes are capable of handling some 6,000 vehicles per hour. But the infrastructure also has a dual purpose.

Under the bridge, it carries utility pipes for power, telecommunications lines and fresh water.

不受经济低迷影响 云顶国际如常注资狮城赌场

(八打灵再也8日讯)云顶有限公司(GENTING,3182,主板贸易服务组)的子公司云顶国际(Genting International plc)已在新加坡圣淘沙名胜世界休闲胜地计划(Resorts World at Sentosa)投资20亿新元(47亿5000万令吉)。其余融资将由去年4月取得的财团贷款提取。

迄今为止,云顶国际在该计划下的开支是30亿新元;即是已由财团贷款提取大约10亿新元。
在对The Edge财经日报的简报中,该计划公关副总裁吴凯思(译音)如是披露。他说:“我们首先注入资金,以反映对该计划的信心。”

该49公顷发展计划的融资三份之一来自证券,以及三分之二是贷款。注入20亿新元后,云顶集团基本上已兑现它的融资承诺。

云顶国际在2007年发售附加股筹集21亿7000万新元,成为该年在新加坡的最大筹集资金计划。筹集的资金主要将用来推行该发展计划。

吴氏说,由于已注入一半发展计划所需的投资,云顶集团将可取得赌场执照。

新加坡政府规定,注入至少一半的投资、完成至少一半的发展计划以及建筑面积后,云顶集团才可以申请赌场执照。

发出赌场执照后,该集团也必须在3年内注入承诺的全部发展投资。新加坡政府允许的赌场最大面积是1万5000平方公尺,较云顶高原赌场的大约9300平方公尺面积更大;而允许的博彩机器最多是2500架。

至于目前经济逆转是否会延误圣淘沙名胜世界休闲胜地的开幕时,吴氏说:“我们监督经济进展,目前改变计划仍然是过早。”

新加坡跌入更深的经济衰退。在2008年第4季萎缩12.5%是它的国内生产总值连续第3季萎缩。
虽然新加坡的经济展望黯淡,但是圣淘沙名胜世界的目标保持不变。它将制造1万个就业机会以及连带3万5000份工作,在第1年全面营业后预定吸引1500万名游客。

云顶集团预定在2010年第1季之前开放圣淘沙名胜世界的东区与中区,包括新加坡环球影城、4间酒店、赌场、餐厅以及零售商店。

利率下跌 更多屋主寻求重新贷款

[亚洲新闻网] 随着本地利率在过去几个月、迅速下滑,更多人准备将他们的房屋重新贷款,不过要顺利取得较低利率的贷款、并不容易。

世界各地政府为了振救国内的经济,先后削减利率。在一片减息的热浪中,我国的利率也节节下滑。

3个月期的银行同业拆息利率,已经从去年9月的2%、滑落到目前1%的水平下。

本地大多数房屋贷款利率的计算、是同银行同业拆息利率挂钩,因此许多屋主正在考虑重新安排房屋的贷款。

金融业者表示,假如屋主能够成功、重新安排房屋的贷款,一般上都可以节省上万元的利息。

根据业者的估计,过去3到6月,要求重新安排房屋贷款的申请,增加了大约50%。

不过由于银行现在对贷款申请的批准额外谨慎,加上产业价值的下跌,屋主要成功重新贷款、也不容易。

環球影城成焦點

他指出,儘管聖淘沙綜合度假村設施和景點符合高水準,惟收費方面,大馬人消費得起。

吳為強指出,首季投入營運的項目,佔總計劃的60%至70%,包括4家酒店,並展望將在明年底或2011年初全面投入營運。

巫翠蘭說:“我們有信心達致早前設定每年引進1500萬遊客人次的目標。”

如期竣工有助招遊客製造4.5萬就業機會

在經濟不景氣和裁員風掀起之際,新加坡聖淘沙綜合度假村捎來兩大喜訊,包括將製造4萬個5000個就業機會,以及計劃如期竣工有助吸引更多遊客。

吳為強指出,裁員風刮起,聖淘沙綜合度假村卻在這非常時期,捎來好消息,預計將製造1萬個直接就業機會。

“該計劃也將連帶貢獻3萬5000份工作,包括外包等。”

吳為強指出,儘管經濟不景,公司卻不打算暫擱計劃,決定如期竣工。

“隨度假村正式營業后,集合東南亞其它地區和國家的主題樂園,包括香港迪斯尼樂園或即將將柔佛興建的Legoland等的力量,冀望將吸引更多旅客前往東南亞旅遊。”

PETALING JAYA: Genting International plc (GIL), a subsidiary of Genting Bhd, has forked out S$2 billion (RM4.75 billion), which is the total equity portion, in the funding of the S$6 billion Resorts World at Sentosa (RWS) project in Singapore.

RWS vice-president of communications Krist Boo said that the remaining sum for the project would be drawn down from a syndicated loan which was secured in April last year.

So far GIL has spent S$3 billion on the project, which means there is already a drawdown of some S$1 billion from the syndicated loan.

The 49ha RWS development is funded one-third by equity and two-thirds by borrowings. With the S$2 billion already spent in the project, the Genting group had essentially fully committed the portion of funding using its own equity, she said.

“We poured in our own money first to reflect our confidence in the project,” Boo said at a briefing to The Edge Financial Daily here yesterday.

GIL managed to raise S$2.17 billion in September 2007 from a rights issue that was the largest equity fund raising exercise in Singapore during the year. The money raised is principally for the development of RWS.

Boo said the group was on track to obtain the casino licence, as it had committed half of the project’s total investment.

Under the Singapore government’s request, Genting can apply for the casino licence only when at least half of the committed investment had been expended, at least half of the proposed development area had been completed, and at least half of the proposed gross floor area had been completed.

The group is also required to expend 100% of its committed development investment three years after the casino licence has been issued.

The maximum floor area of the casino allowed by the Singapore government is 15,000 square metres (sq m), which is more than Genting Highland’s casino floor area of some 9,300 sq m, while the maximum number of gaming machines allowed is 2,500.

Asked if the current economic downturn would delay the opening of RWS, Boo said: “We are watching the economy. It is still too early to change our projections.”

Singapore sank deeper into recession after posting a 12.5% contraction in its economy in the fourth quarter (4Q) of 2008 – the third consecutive quarter it saw shrinking gross domestic product.

Boo said RWS was sticking to its targets of hiring 10,000 direct employees and 35,000 indirect workers, as well as attracting 15 million visitors in its first year of full operations, despite the gloomy outlook on Singapore’s economy.

Genting has targeted to open the east and central zones of RWS, including Universal Studios Singapore, four hotels, a casino and the dining and retail outlets, by 1Q2010.

The west zone of RWS, including a marine life park and spa village, would be opened “progressively”, she added, but no decision had been made on the definite deadline.

Resorts World at Sentosa to open in 2010

PETALING JAYA: Genting International plc’s unit Resorts World at Sentosa Pte Ltd will embark on an aggressive marketing campaign to build awareness about its integrated resort in Sentosa Island slated to open in 2010.

Assistant vice-president Robin Goh said the company would be “casting its net far” and aggressively promoting the resort to Malaysia, China, India, Indonesia and Thailand.

“It will be robust as we have one year to the opening of our doors,” he told StarBiz.

While he did not elaborate on the amount allocated for the awareness campaign, he said it would be a “sizeable amount running into the millions.”

He said the advertising blueprint was still being reviewed.

“We will be heavy on advertising, be it basic or supporting media. We will organise roadshows and take part in trade shows organised by ourselves or parent company Genting.

“Of course by the second half of 2009, we will reveal our hotel and ride rates,” he said.

Goh said the company was forging ahead with confidence despite the lacklustre economy. “We need good reason for people to come to this part of the world,” he said.

The 49ha mega resort is on track to welcoming 15 million visitors in its first year of operations.

The S$6bil Resorts World at Sentosa, developed by Genting International, will boast the first and only Universal Studios theme park in South-East Asia, Marine Life Park, Maritime Xperiential Museum and six world-class hotels.

Goh said the first four hotels to open would be Hotel Michael, Maxims Tower, The Hard Rock Hotel and Festive Hotel.
