Month-end window-dressing gives Straits Times Index a late push

A shove in the final minutes takes it up 31.84 points to 3,192.62

MONTH-ENDING window-dressing was a distinct possibility, given the late push on the Straits Times Index (STI) and the divergent performance of the index versus the broad market.

The other notable theme throughout the week was that China is out while commodities are in.

The STI yesterday tracked Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index before a hefty shove in the final few minutes took it up 31.84 points to 3,192.62.

The broad market, however, recorded 215 rises versus 176 falls, excluding warrants, suggesting a much more mixed session. For the week, the STI rose 70 points or 2.2 per cent.
